LA Missions Outreach 2011, Update #2

Hello everyone! Just a quick update to let you know that we made it to Los Angeles safe and sound, and have had an absolutely fantastic day! We started off by meeting at the World Impact center and getting briefed by Bob Engel, one of the missionaries that ABC supports, and then heading off onto our annual city walk. We walked all the way into downtown LA, experiencing the sights, smells, and personality of the city. For many of the students, this was their first time in the city, and for most it was definitely the first time walking through skid row. As you can see from the picture above, many had the opportunity to give out sack lunches, converse with the homeless and hear their stories. The city is very dark, and for many there is no hope or light, and by the power of the Holy Spirit we were used in many ways to share that light.

(This is a fantastic time to plug the Spotlight on Los Angeles, which will be on Wednesday, January 11, starting at 6:30. The students will share stories from today, and from the rest of the week, supplemented by pictures and video. We'll see you there!)

Tonight we were supposed to head to the heart of skid row for "homeless karaoke", a tradition our team has kept for nearly six years. Unfortunately, karaoke was canceled tonight due to the hosts being sick, so we came back to the World Impact center and spent the next hour and a half debriefing the day, sharing testimonies, and having an on-the-spot Q&A with Bob. We ended the night with worship through music, and now everyone is either in bed or heading that way.

All in all it was a great first day of the trip. Tomorrow we start work projects, Bible camps, and serving at the Union Rescue Mission. I'll post another update when time is available. Thank you for your prayers!

In His Name,
Cory Miller
