It's 7:00 on December 28th and we've officially begun the LA Missions Outreach! I'm currently writing this from one of the vehicles as we head south, and I can definitely say the team is incredibly excited to get to Los Angeles and begin the week. We met this morning at the Student Center (I'm sure most of you parents were up that early too...), outlined a bit of what was going on today, then loaded up all of the luggage and things and headed out.
Today we'll be doing a number of things, including the annual city walk, in which the students get a taste of what life is like in the inner city. We'll be conversing with the homeless primarily, and many of the students will get a chance to hear the life stories of many of these individuals. Please pray for the hearts of the students, that this first day will open their eyes and soften their hearts to the pain and need of the city.
On a personal level, LA 2006 was my first missions outreach, and this city walk played a huge part in how God began to open my heart to the homeless and and the needs of the world. It's a powerful time, and we want our eyes to be opened.
We will also be spending the evening with the homeless on skid row for "homeless karaoke", a night of fun, music, singing, dancing, and interacting with the people of LA in a personal way. This is also a great time for outreach and connection, so please pray for this time as well.
I will try and post as many updates as I can on this trip; Adam as well. If you have any questions or need to get in contact with us, call the church office at (805) 466-2051 for info on that.
Here's to a great five days!
In His Name,
Cory Miller
